Are bugs really attracted to purple I wonder... That would be pretty strange if they were, but it would make color coded flowers make more sense.

Then why aren't ash trees purple?

Hmm, I have an "Autumn Purple Ash" in my front yard- perhaps this is some part of the adaptation? Ours doesn't get to be that shade exactly, but the leaves are a lovely redish-purple in the fall.
